What we check on LTL
LTL means lots of small lines. A few dollars wrong on 300 shipments adds up to real money.
- Lane and zone
- Origin and destination ZIP codes set the rate. We check it's the right line of your tariff, including special zones and points your contract calls out.
- Freight class
- The NMFC class on the bill against your product's class and any FAK in your contract. A reclass should come with an inspection report.
- Weight and reweighs
- Billed weight against the bill of lading. A reweigh charge should come with a certificate.
- Fuel surcharge
- The DOE diesel index for the right week, on the right base. Some contracts apply it to linehaul only, others to the total.
- Accessorials
- Liftgate, residential, limited access, inside delivery, appointment, notify. At contract price, and only when they happened.
- Minimum charge
- The floor per shipment. Applied when the rating comes out lower, not on top.
- Duplicates
- The same PRO number on two invoices, or twice on the same one.

No problem. Summary invoices with hundreds of lines are exactly where checking by hand stops being possible.
We also get a shipment file from the carrier.
Even better. If you have an export with declared weights and classes, we use it to cross check what the carrier billed.
Our rates change every year.
Each rate sheet has its effective dates. Shipments are rated with the contract in force on the ship date, not the invoice date.
